Pass the word to everyone. See you there!
BRISAY and its Legacy of Academic Achievement
I was invited to speak during the 15th Recognition Day Ceremony of BRSHS that took place on Monday, March 31, 2009 (sorry President Darwin; much as I would have liked to attend the graduation ceremony that afternoon, I couldn’t for I really had to catch up on some sleep). While I was there, I learned all about the achievements of Bicol Regional Science High School. You’ll be amazed at the awards and commendations that BRSHS has garnered through the years and the glory that BRSHS students have won for the school. BRSHS really makes me proud.
Do you know, for instance, that BRSHS won first place among all 17 Regional Science High Schools in the country in the 1st National Science-Mathematics Summit for Regional Science High Schools that occurred from Feb 9 to 14 in Zamboanga City?
Yes, folks! BRSHS ruled!!!! It won first place in both the students and teachers category. Our school, which is gravely lacking in funding and facilities, has - against all odds - dominated the contest and routed the competition. Aren’t you proud you are a Brisayeño?
Congratulations BRSHS students, teachers and, of course, Principal Ed Nañoz! I’m sure all BRSHS alumni are very proud of you. To read the full article about this event and other current BRSHS news, please visit brshs.depedligaocity.org.
On a personal note, I’d like to thank Mr. Nañoz, Mr. Peñaflor (who was not physically present but nevertheless made sure I was taken care of), Mrs. Maligaya, Ms. Rempis, Ms. Redita, Mr. Villamor, Mr. Pelgone, Ms. Llacer, and the rest of the BRSHS faculty, staff and students who have invited me to BRSHS and made me feel very welcome. I had a really great time, and the food was fantastic!
To the BRSHS alumni, let me again appeal to your charitable instincts. Our school badly needs your help. Any kind of help will be very much appreciated. Tew, I know, has some plans. I think it’s great what you are planning to do, Tew! :) I wish to chat to you about it sometime (not on Plurk probably as I don’t get to plurk much nowadays).
Once more, let’s congratulate BRSHS for a job well done. Aim high, Brisay!!
For corrections or reactions you’d rather leave privately, please email me at jinkkyjinks [at] yahoo [dot] com. You may also leave your comments here, of course.- Jinky B.

LOW TOXICITY AND FUN COCKTAILS by jinks
If you don’t want beer, hard liquor, plain wine, or softdrinks for the homecoming, you and your batchmates may try one of these low-toxicity fun cocktails. FYI: all of the following ‘recipes’ make only one serving.
Angel’s Kiss
- 1 & 1/2 oz Kahlua
- 1/2 0z heavy cream
In a cordial or pony glass (like that illustrated above), float the heavy cream on top of the Kahlua and serve.
Chicago Bomb
- 2 oz vanilla ice cream
- 1 tsp white creme de cacao
- 1 tsp green creme de menthe
In an old-fashioned or lowball glass like the above (that usually has a capacity of 6-8 oz), blend the ingredients until smooth.
These are just two of the cocktails I’ve seen in the book Atomic Bodyslams to Whiskey Zippers. By the way, if you’re going to make them, be sure to chill the glasses before using them.
Disclaimer: This is not an encouragement to drink alcoholic beverages during the alumni homecoming . Just wanted to inspire you to think of your food options; you can actually prepare great food and drinks on a budget just as long as you are imaginative.
That’s all for now. For violent reactions, please keep them to yourself, he he he.
If you want more, leave a comment.
